Don’t Jump on the Couch!!!

What do you do when your child won’t listen to what you’re saying?  Take pictures of them because it’s cute and you’re really not that mad.

All taken with the 28 1.8 at 2.8, 1/80, ISO 640

Have a good weekend!

Pro Photo Blogs

I’ve gotten several emails and comments asking about my blog.  No, I’m not an html genius.  Far from it, actually.  This blog was done using Pro Photo Blogs.  Can I tell you how simple it was?  I literally had this blog set up in less than an hour.  And I love it because I can change it whenever I want.  Super easy and super fast.  I think a professional looking and functional blog is very important for pro photogs because I know I get a lot more hits on my blog than I do on my website each day.

The blog header along with the background were done by Jamie from So Divine Designs.  The Pro Photo Blogs come with a flash header and Jamie and I were able to figure out a way to get it to look like the images in the frames were changing.

You don’t have to be a pro photog to have a professional blog.  For $179 it’s a steal!

Boys Will Be Boys

I swear.  Everyday we have a major accident in our house.  Skinned knees and elbows.  Run ins with sharp corners.  Slips in the kitchen.  Today Brayden and I were playing hide and go seek in the kitchen (I was hiding and he was seeking) and all was fine and good until he found me and when I turned around he fell into the corner of the refrigerator.  Yeah, I know.  Not smart to play hide and go seek in the kitchen, but we were having so much fun.  Poor kid got a little cut on his eyelid, but other than that he looked okay.  He was really shaken up, though.  And it took a while to calm him down.  Well, later I figured out why.  B got himself pretty good and it’s been getting redder and redder every hour.  Tomorrow he may have a black eye :(  I guess I better get used to it though.  It doesn’t seem like any of his accidents are slowing him down at all!

Yes, Mom.  I know I need to comb his hair and I know he needs a haircut :)

Happy 4th of July!

4th of July is my second most favorite holiday.  Warm weather, parades, swimming, BBQ, fireworks.  What more could you ask for?  I hope you have a fun and relaxing day with your family!  And a special thank you to those military families who sacrifice being away from your loved ones to protect our country so we can keep celebrating our Independence Day!

Shot with the 50 1.2 at 2.5, 1/2500, ISO 125.  And this shot was actually taken at 7:40am rather than in the evening.  My backyard gets good light twice a day!  Woohoo!

If You Still Don’t Believe Me…

If you still don’t believe me that you don’t need the fanciest camera body to get great pictures then I think you should read this. Photographer, Carla Essen, is selling her Canon Rebel and I love her blog entry about parting with her “baby”.  Just another perspective from another photographer that it takes more than a fancy 5D to take great pictures.  If you’re looking to get your first DSLR you may want to consider buying hers…

Speaking of buying used equipment, my go to second shooter, Tracy, and I were talking this week about buying used camera bodies.  Here are some tips I gave her:

1)  Buy from someone you “know”.  You don’t have to know them personally, but I would much rather buy from a photographer who I am familiar with then on Ebay or Craigslist.  Why?  Because you know most photographers treat their equipment as well (if not better than) as their own children.  You’re guaranteed to get something that is in good shape.  A lot of photographers will list equipment for sale on their blogs or in forums.

2)  Ask how many clicks are on it.  Someone can own a camera for a year and not use it much.  Or they could be shooting two weddings a weekend every weekend.  The age of the camera doesn’t matter as much as how much it was used.

3)  Make sure to ask if it’s been taken in for any repairs or if there are any warranties left on it. They should probably tell you this, but they may just be leaving out key details about the equipment that you should know.

I bought my first back up body from a photographer in Santa Barbara a few years ago and haven’t had any problems with it.  Of course, you’re always taking a risk buying used, but if the price is right it may be worth it for you!
