Brayden’s First Haircut
When my friend Jamie’s son, Aiden, was around the same age he needed a haircut. His hair was getting long and I kept telling Jamie he needed it cut. Just cut his hair! It took Jamie awhile because she knew once she cut it he wouldn’t look like a baby anymore. He would be a big boy. Well, now I completely understand. I apologize, Jamie, for thinking you were being dramatic because now I completely understand what it’s all about
So, I knew Brayden’s first haircut was going to be traumatizing. But I had no idea it would be this TRAUMATIZING! All I wanted was the iconic picture of baby sitting in the airplane, sucking on a lollipop, looking into the mirror as the first lock is cut. That’s all I wanted. Apparently it was too much to ask for. We sat Brayden in the airplane and he liked it at first. Until Zari (the very nice woman who cut his hair) tried to put the smock on him. That’s when he lost it. Numerous lollipops were thrown on the floor. The screaming (oh, the inconsolable not being able to catch your breath screaming) started. I tried to put him in my lap. That didn’t work. Chuck put him in his lap and poor Zari had to work around him. I sang “The Noble Duke of York” about 27 times. Somehow Zari was able to work her magic.
So, here’s the before:

And the after (still looking a little dazed and confused):

My favorite part? The back of his neck.

But the front isn’t so bad either

He’s such a big boy now! I swear today he said a whole bunch of new words and said “oink oink” for the first time too. He’s growing up too fast!

He looks so adorable! You never realize how traumatizing it is for a first hair cut until it’s your child! He looks like a little man now!
Oh my god that photo with his chin on the high chair is my favorite photo of him you have EVER posted. Such a big boy! And getting more adorable every day!
These photos are just precious. The second to last photo melts my heart. You can see that he loves his mama to pieces.
I still haven’t officially given my almost three year old daughter a hair cut – except for a few bangs trims. I dread it. Now that we have a boy – 5 1/2 months old – I know that I’ll probably have to cut his much sooner. Sad sad days ahead. Glad you made it through ok.
He’s so cute! My daughter didn’t like having the cape around her either. I had to end up holding her while the lady took a few snippets here and there. I was dreading the second haircut, but it went much, much better. No crying. Nothing. So maybe the 2nd time will go as smoothly as it did for us:)
well…now that I looked again, it’s not a high chair =) but nonethless, still my favorite!!
He is adorable–maybe I will take mine for his first cut. I generally wait until 2, but yours is such a cutie pie!
Question: What do you set your WB on, your pictures are gorgeous and (not sure how to describe) clean, white, clear? My pictures don’t come out so “white”!!
He is just so stinkin’ cute – with short or long hair! Now that you’ve cut it the first time, look out because it will grow like a weed. At least that’s what happened to us. It seems like Colin needs to have his hair cut once a month now. We’ve learned a few tricks along the way, as you will too, but taking a treat has worked the best! The last time we took dried cranberries and that totally distracted him. Toys are always good too!
Adorable!!!
I’m with Danielle, get ready for once a month haircuts now. My boys had their first haircuts a few months ago, and it too was traumatizing for me
He looks adorable.
(my son hates the smock too… i just go without it and deal with the little hairs later)
Wait until you see my child’s hair. I am so undecided about cutting it! He has beautiful blonde ringlets. But now they are getting long. What to do what to do!
lol!! so cute!!! I totally forgot about how you used to ‘harass’ me all the time. He still looks a like a little baby to me, but that’s probably because I have a 4 year old. HEHE. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you too, that for a long time we went without the smock as well. Just always went straight home to take a bath. Or bring your own favorite towel and just take his shirt off and wrap it around him next time. We did that a few times too.
It just now started getting easier so we had to try all kinds of things.
Awwww…he is sooo big and handsome! I love his “dazed and confused” picture..so cute! I can’t believe how big he has gotten! He still needs to come over and play in the water park before summer is over!
Awww poor little guy! I felt the same way when they cut my nephew’s hair. He looked like a different kid too! B still looks as adorable as ever and not too much different (:
aww he looks so handsome!!!
He looks like such a big boy now!
He looks adorable! It does get better. My son did the same thing.
Brayden looks so handsome with his new cut!!! What a big boy! Did you go to First Cuts 4 Kids in Newport Beach? If so, they’re awesome! That’s where my daughter got her first haircute a couple of years ago!
He is so handsome! Wow, you waited 18 months for his first hair cut. My son is 13 months and he’s already had two.
He’s too adorable w/ or w/o hair!
It looks so cute!!
So adorable! I was the same way with my son. Didn’t want to get it cut because he would lose all his baby looks. Well, he’s 13 months now and has had 6! His first one was at 7 months old and I cried the whole way home.
I always wish they would just cut it without putting the stupid smock on…that ruins it for us everytime!!
I TOTALLY get it! It makes them a big boy instantaneously.
My mom told me that my “baby” looks shabby with his long curly hair and why can’t I just get it cut? Well…because I can’t!!! He is our last baby and I intend to keep him that way for as long as possible!
Brayden looks adorable!
Drew B! That little boy is seriously to cute for words! Oh my goodness! The hair cut does make him look less like a baby and more like a big boy
But it’s all good!! About time to have hime a little brother or sister now! haha!
