Get Your Freaking Buttons!

Again, thank you to everyone who offered to design the Mom*tog button.  You Mom*togs are radical! I ended up going with the first person who emailed me and she did a great job!  Melissa, with “With Love, Bug”, was not only super fast, but a pleasure to work with and I love my buttons!  Melissa is finishing up her site and I’ll be sure to post the link when she’s done (I’ve seen a preview and it’s super cute!).

Now, everyone grab your freaking buttons and show your Mom*tog pride!  Woohoo!  Thanks, Melissa!

Happy 18th Month Birthday Brayden!

At 3:31 today my baby will officially be closer to two years old than one year old!  Wow!  That’s crazy talk.  It’s absolutely mind boggling to think that just a year and a half ago Brayden was a teeny, tiny little baby.  Now he can walk, run, talk, and has his own funny little personality.  Let’s see.  Here are some fun things that Brayden did this past month:

- He can fake sneeze and yawn.

- He learned how to jump off the ground and says a word that kind of sounds like jump.

- He has this funny little sound for “thank you”.  We are constantly working on “please”, but it just ain’t happening.  It’s just “More, more, MORE!”

- He absolutely loves playing with his brother, Hauggy.  He likes to throw balls to him and say “Go, go!”.

- His new animal sound is a monkey.

- He loves to read books by himself.  He has very little patience when being read to and just likes to look at the pictures and flip the pages.

- He FINALLY started sleeping through the night again (Thank God!) and is even sleeping past 7am (knock on wood!)

- Daddy usually does the bedtime routine, but he’s been wanting me to put him to bed more often.  How can I say no to cuddle time with my baby boy?

- He actually tells us when he wants to go “nigh nigh”.  Although “nigh nigh” sometimes means snuggle or play time in our bed.  Not necessarily sleep.

- He is still obsessed with the movie Madagascar and calls it “Ga Ca”.  Whenever he sees a CD or DVD (because there are lots in my office!) he says “Ga ca?  Ga ca?  Ga ca?” until I go and put in the real Ga Ca for him.

That’s just about all I can think of!  Happy year and a half birthday, my B Boy!  I love you forever, and ever, and ever, and ever!

Here’s a pic with some major bedhead!  Taken with my new favorite toy – my Canon G10!  It’s so handy!

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is basically the only thing I remember from high school photography (Thanks Mr. Leal!).  And I think it really helped to develop my photographic eye.  The rule of thirds is simple.  Imagine breaking your viewfinder down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) when you are composing your shot so that you have nine parts.  Now, instead of placing your subject in the center of the viewfinder place  your subject in the parts that intersect.  Take this image for example:

rulethirds1

See how Brayden’s face is smack dab in the third intersection over?

This is an oldie, but a goodie!

ruleofthirds3Again, Brayden’s face is over on the top right intersection.

With this image he is on the left side.  Not exactly in the intersection, but close.

rulethirds2

It can be done with families.  See how Halley (who is the focal point of this picture) is in the intersection?

ruleofthirds4

Also, “Joy” is close to another intersection itself.

It can be done with couples.  Sandie’s eyes are in one of the intersections.

rulethirds4

Of course, rules are made to be broken and sometimes I love it when the subject is smack dab in the center too :)

rulethirds6

Your subjects don’t have to be exactly on the lines.  These are just guidelines and don’t have to be perfect!  But, try composing your shot before you take it.  Really think about how where you position your subject create impact.  How can the rule of thirds improve your photography?

And have you voted for Mom*tog yet today???

And it would be totally rad if you voted for the DrewB blog while you are over there as well ;)

Press My Button!

HELP!  According to several people I need a button.  A Mom*tog button for all of you fabulous Mom*tog readers to display on your blogs.  Something that says, “I’m a Mom*tog!”.  My friend, Julie, sent me a rather nasty (I’m just kidding it wasn’t nasty, but it makes my story more interesting if I say it was) email.  This is what she said:

get a freaking button.  seriously.
peace out.

See.  Kind of nasty, right?

My designer friend is busy working on another exciting project right now (that I can’t wait to share with you!!!)  So, I wanted to see if there was anyone out there who wanted to make this button for me since I have no idea how to do it.  In exchange you will get my love and lots and lots of rave reviews here on Mom*tog :)  And it will definitely turn Brayden’s frown upside down!

Any takers?  Shoot me an email!  drew at drewbphotography dot com  Thanks!
ETA – A BIG thanks to everyone who responded.  I found someone to do it so hopefully we’ll have it up and running soon so everyone can have their own Mom*tog Button!  Yeah!

Mr. Bear

I’d like to introduce you to Mr. Bear

And before everyone starts freaking out (Mom), I know Mr. Bear needs to be washed thankyouverymuch.  But, the problem is, how do I pry it away from the kid?  See, I had a bear growing up (Teddy.  Creative, I know) and Teddy was always dirty.  My parents never washed Teddy so I think Brayden will be okay with his dirty Mr. Bear.  I mean, we do wash it… every couple of months.

B has been attached to Mr. Bear since he was about 3 months old.  The only time he sucks his thumb is when he has Mr. Bear.  Mr. Bear is his BFF, his snuggle bunny, his protector.  He loves it.  He loves it so much that we have two backup Mr. Bears (teeny, weeny Mr. Bear and Mr. Football).  And each set of grandparents has their own Mr. Bear as well.  The world would come to an end if we didn’t have something equivilant to a Mr. Bear at nap and bedtimes.

I recently read a funny post on my friend Kristi’s blog about how her 3 1/2 year old decided she didn’t need her Piggy anymore.  I will be so sad when Brayden doesn’t need Mr. Bear anymore!

What are your kids favorite snuggilies?
