Turn the Lights Off!

Remember when shooting indoors to turn all of the lights off and open up those windows.  Artifical light can create harsh shadows and yucky colors.  If it’s too dark to shoot in that room without lights and you have to shoot in there use flash.  If you don’t have to shoot in that particular room then try switching rooms to see if the light is better or shoot at a different time.  Watch your rooms to see which rooms get the best light at what time of day.  Natural light is the best, cheapest, and easiest light!

Here are a couple random shots I took of B yesterday.

Let’s get serious here for a minute…that child is the most adorable thing I’ve seen in a very long time. Look at those perfect little lips! You and Chuck should have 5,978,834,456 more babies because the world needs more cute!

This is great advice. I HATE when I forget to turn off the lights. I can always tell when I look at the pictures after and there is a yellow glow on the hair or face. One light source is usually best. Your indoor natural light shots are fabulous!

Yes, I am a huge fan of natural light. Our last home was a bit of a cave, but now we have these big beautiful windows that are perfect for getting lots of light.

We live in a cave too :( You have any advice for us Momtogs that don’t have much natural lighting in our homes? I do get some good light in our master bedroom in the afternoon time…but I’m most of the time at work…I do have some umbrella lights and stuff, but we don’t keep the up all the time and they are a hassle in those moments where you just want a picture…BTW…I love your blog, you always give the best advice…

I love your blogs. Keep em coming! Your little boy is so cute too!! You must have a lot of natural light in your home. My home is surrounded by trees! Did you touch your images up any, or is this how they came out of the camera? Awesome job!

I couldn’t agree more about living in a cave! I’ll have to try turning off the lights. Such a simple idea that I didn’t know about.
