When I was in college I was a nanny to the most amazing family. Â Garrett was around 2 1/2 when I started watching him. Â I loved him so much and I loved his family too. Â They were so generous and treated me just like I was a part of their family. Â I loved that little boy. Â We would go on the ferry down in Balboa, we’d walk around Fashion Island and get ice cream and take the puppies at the pet shop for walks. Â We’d go and look at construction sites. Â He was so smart. Â He knew all the airplanes and construction equipment by name. Â What’s crazy is that he’s now 12! Â I unfortunately lost touch with them when I graduated from college. Â
Now we have our own nanny. Â Laura lived in our old neighborhood. Â Just a few houses from us. Â Her parents would always tell me about their daughter and how wonderful she was and how great she was with kids. Â I was hesitant to leave Brayden with anyone but family. Â But, I soon realized that I needed more help than our parents could give us. Â She started coming over a couple of hours twice a week just so I could get a shower or get a little editing done. Â She’s now been with us for close to a year and a half and B just loves her. Â She’s so patient with him and loves to teach him new things. Â She reminds me so much of myself when I watched Garrett. Â You can just tell how much she really does love Brayden.
One day when I was walking Brayden by our park he picked up a dandelion and blew it. Â I know I didn’t teach him how to do that! Â Chuck said that Laura had. Â I just thought it was so cool! Â I wanted to get a few pictures of them playing with the dandelions and just hanging out together. Â Brayden gave me exactly 3 minutes and 53 seconds before he had a breakdown, but I still think I got some great ones

Thank you for everything you do for our family, Laura! Â B loves you and so do we! Â
PS Â Laura says she’s not photogenic. Â I couldn’t disagree more!

This is so sweet!! I was a nanny for a family for 4 years, and have that same close relationship.. so close, that I took their 5 year old to disney world for a week back in October! From a nanny’s perspective, I know Laura will treasure these pictures of her time with B!! I had a friend of mine take some of me with my kiddos when they came to visit me over the summer and they’re my favorite pictures I have! (if you scroll down to the end of the post you can see some ;0) ) http://www.jessicasmithphotography.com/blog/?p=1290 Thanks for sharing!!

I’m so glad you’ve found someone that you can trust and that Brayden loves so much! That must be such a relief for you knowing he’s in good hands. She’s such a pretty girl – she actually looks like she could be his mom!

Wow, I have never called myself Miss Laura before, but I find it appropriate at the moment. Drew dropped off these photos for me on Friday and I don’t think I can explain how anxious I was to see what I thought was going to be just one photo of Brayden and I (which would have been plenty for me)! Unfortunately, I was late coming home from work and wasn’t able to look at them in front of Brayden, Drew, and Chuck. The second I opened the photo album, I almost started to tear up! Simply, because of how much Brayden has grown in the last year and a half. The only photos I had of him before this were ones that I had taken with my phone. The first photo I have is when Brayden couldn’t even roll over yet! Now, he is an amazing, happy, and adorable (thanks to Drew and Chuck) little boy! I must admit, I ended up not crying, but smilinig so much and so big that my cheeks were hurting! When my parents came home, they immediately looked through the album and my mom told me her favorite photo was one were Brayden was holding my pinkie finger. Apparently, thats how I used to hold my sitters hand too!
The amazing thing about Brayden is that no matter what, that little boy can make me smile from ear to ear! I talk about him all the time and tell my friends about every little new thing he does! Even if its as simple as climbing up a piece of playground equipment all by himself! He is so smart and so well behaved! I start to miss him after not seeing him for just a couple days! Now, I can just look at the frame sitting in my room and smile!
Thank you all for the kind words, I get nervous taking photos! I’m sure Drew saw that, but she made it so simple for me! The funny thing is, in most of the photos I was saying “Yay!” cause I get so excited around the little guy!
I’m already looking forward to playing with him again, soon!
*Toodles*
Those are beautiful shots Drew! You amaze me with your talent more and more each day…I am so impressed with how much fun B looked in all the photos and the session was less than 4 minutes. AND I agree 100% Laura is SO photogenic – she is gordeous!
This post made me cry. Because… when I was in college I was the nanny to a little boy named T.C. (and by the way… my name is Laura too). I started keeping T.C. when he was 1 and this past Oct he turned 9. His mom is still one of my best friends and she keeps me posted on everything he does. They still live in the town where I went to school, and sometimes he will tell his mom how he remembers me taking him to the park. They come visit me a couple times a year and he’s almost as tall as I am now. I always call him my “first born” and tell his mom to take good care of my boy. T.C. really was like my first child…and I think he allowed me to have a pretty good idea of what boys are all about. Now I have two boys of my own… but there will FOREVER be a special place in my heart for that sweet boy who taught me so much!
Thanks for sharing this Drew… brings to mind so many good memories for me! The pics of “Miss Laura” are beautiful! Doesn’t hurt that she has one handsome little boy with her.
Merry Christmas!
Beautiful shots!
So sweet! Did you give the album as a Christmas gift? What a great idea

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now, and just thought that I’d let you know that I stop by on occasion. I really appreciate all of the tips & tricks you give, and the way in which you share your talent (i.e., you don’t make me feel like an idiot for not knowing the perfect ISO setting for each picture!). I hope you have a great holiday and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2010 has in store on your blog! Thanks!
Drew, I am at work and just showed everyone these pictures of B. I miss you all so much!
