Up until Monday we’ve been having very nice weather in the OC. Â I don’t want to brag or anything, but we’ve had temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. Â We’ve been enjoying Disneyland and play dates outside. Â Shorts and flip flops. Â It’s been awesome. Â And then yesterday the weather was not so awesome. Â Tornado warnings. Â In Southern California. Â The weatherman on the channel 9 news actually said that we should get in our basements. Â What basements??? Â We live in Southern California! Â Who has a basement? Â It really was an exciting 30 minutes. Â Everyone was freaking out over this alleged tornado. Â And then the bad weather blew through and the blue sky came back out. Â If you’re from anywhere but Southern California you would have laughed at us yesterday. Â The rest of the country sees all the time. Â We’re wimps.
Since the weather has been so great we’ve been spending lots of time in our backyard working on our garden. Â Chuck decided to get Brayden his own watering can so he can chores. Â B loves it! Â He loves to do things himself. Â He even has his own flower pots that he is responsible for watering. Â Here are some pictures I took of him. Â This was the week before the big tornado of 2010.
These pictures were taken about an hour before sunset, which is my favorite time to take pictures!

Same settings as above.

And he even indulged me and sat for a minute and smiled for a picture! Â And I apologize for my son’s hair. Â There is nothing I can do about it. Â It’s out of control.

i am insanely jealous of the weather over there. we have a basement, and have to make regular use of it during tornado season. the pictures are beautiful… it’s also little boy’s jobs to have crazy hair, unless you shave it. my son’s hair is crazy too.
i think it’s endearing.
No need to apologize for B’s hair, it’s carefree and super cute. My son’s hair is out of control and I gave up for a long time before committing to combing it down with water every morning. He hated it at first but now he’s used to it. Curls are unruly – there’s just nothing you can do about it. I think it’s precious though!
Soooo jealous of your weather (not the tornado warnings)! We are freezing here in Indiana!
Awesome pictures (no surprise there!) and your garden looks amazing! I am so ready to be able to have flowers and such again… just a few more months for us! Oh, and I think B’s hair is just adorable! No need to be sorry!
I’m totall jealous of your weather right now, what I wouldn’t give to be in shorts and flip flops!
Love his wet little knees
your blog makes me happy. seriously. you make me excited about becoming a mom! thanks for your faithfulness to this blog and to sharing!

Basements?? I had to laugh at that one! But then it made me wonder… what DO you do if you don’t have a basement? We have tornado warnings all the time. And since we live 3 hours from the east coast, we do get hurricanes sometimes, too. I guess every area has its weather issues!

You are making me miss San Diego! I grew up there but we moved to UT 4 years ago. Basement are something that CA is missing out on! All that wasted space you could be uses to hide the kids’ toys or banish them when they are wild but it is too cold to go outside…oh wait it is never too cold to go outside. I love those shots! I miss color in the winter and the ability to stay outside to take picture for more than 5 min (I am a San Diegan and thus a whimp!) Thanks for your glimpse of paradise!
I am sooo jealous of your beautiful weather! Not loving the cold and snow here in New England. Love your crisp, clear photos.
Love these pictures! And his hair is adorable. I grew up in Illinois and lived through some tornadoes including an F-5.. so yes it was kind of funny to see everyone’s reactions to the tornado yesterday.
I am enjoying the rain, just because it is different.. but give me another day and I will want our sun back
January and February are my least favorite months. I need to move to southern cali! Disneyland whenever we want!
When I heard about that tornado warning yesterday, I was scared out of my mind! And there actually was a tornado in Costa Mesa yesterday, so we’re not all crazy. Those are adorable pictures of B. I normally like the rain, but those pictures are making me want the sun to come out again! Hopefully we all survive the next tornado coming our way (:
the wet knees, little boy curls, and t shirt combo is so great in the last picture!
love that you have green grass and flowers that are growing and it’s January!!! though i’ll be honest and admit i’m a bit jealous here in IL. maybe i can convince the hubby we should up and move to California…just not the part with mudslides!
love the photos…can’t wait to get back outide and take some once the weather turns!
Great photos! He is such a handsome little guy!
I am so jealous of your beautiful flowers. Moving to a colder climate, with snow, allows for no flowers in the cold of winter. Makes me miss Cali! I still have thin Ca skin, while my 2 year old could be out in freezing weather for hours, which means a lot of bundling up and just bearing it!
these are too cute….and for B’s hair—you should faux hawk it…that is sooo cute for the boys at this age.
We did the faux hawk for a while, but it got too long. We just got him a haircut yesterday
Much easier to manage!
