Happy Accidents

This week I am trying to be crafty and finish all the details for Brayden’s big 2nd birthday bash on Saturday.  Crafty is not my thing.  Me and crafty don’t really get along.  So, I may be blogging a little less while I’m honing my inner crafty girl.

While we’re on the subject of Brayden’s birthday party can everyone stop what they are doing right now and do an anti-rain dance.  Weather.com keeps playing with my emotions and one day it will say it’s going to rain and the next day it’s not.  Today it says it’s going to rain and I don’t like that.

Thanks.

While looking through my images from a shoot last week I came across this image.  I saw that it was out of focus so I marked it to be deleted.  But, I came back to it and realized that I love it.

Technically, it’s all wrong.  But, I love how Halley is out of focus and it shows her movement.  And I love how the only part that is in focus is her hand holding her little sister Lucy’s hand.  Remember that not every image has to be perfect for you to love it.

I HATE weather.com. It ALWAYS plays with my emotions. Right now I’ve got an outdoor session planned for Friday and it’s SUPPOSED to be sunny. We’ll see. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for sunny weather for you! I can’t believe B is about to be 2! I’ve been blog stalking you FOR A WHILE and I’ve loved watching him grow up here! And good thing you decided not to delete this pic BECAUSE I LOVE IT AND IT IS PERFECT! Keep up the good work, girl! You are an inspiration to so many of us! (Even as far away as Texas!!!)

OK Rain dance is done!! Hoping the weather is sunny and warm for Brayden’s party. Even in a picture you originally did not like, I am amazed at what you do. You have an unbelieveable talent. I could only hope to take pictures as good as that.

Even if it’s out of focus or whatever…. it’s still an awesome pic!! I always love your sunflare…I still haven’t been able to figure it out.

I don’t think it’s technically wrong, it’s focused on their hands so it’s focusing on their bond as sisters :) Since we’re getting a lot of rain you can feel free to send the ya’lls down to us so B’s party will be rain free

I love that image, too! I think that the focus being on the girls hands is super cute and reminds me of my own sisters. Good thing you didn’t erase it, right? Well done!

Yes I have a friend that doesn’t want rain this weekend either, as her daughter is getting married and the reception is going to be outside. So I will join in the rain dance or no rain dance :)

The picture is beautiful! I’ve taken a lot of hand holding pictures lately. Had to return my 24-70 mm lens today, very sad but the 50 1.2 is on the way. Thanks again for taking the time to recommend lenses for us Momtogs. Your guidance is much appreciated!

I promise, that pic is one of my favorites. Something about it is so different, so magical and I just love how happy and real Halley’s smile is (WHICH IS RARE!) and how much they love each other.
So very, very, very glad that you didn’t delete it! So glad!

Oh, I agree! I love that image b/c of the reasons you said! I hope the rain holds out for you!

  14. I am so over the rain, the wet, the winter weather. Like you, also working on planning my daughter’s second birthday (party this weekend). Have menu, no theme, ack.

  15. Jennifer O. says:

That is too sweet! I love how the focus is on their hands and the sun flare on her face!

  16. Tonya says:

The nice thing about these showers, are they are just that. Scattered here in the north with sunshine in between. Go with the flow, borrow umbrellas and have fun. They are only 2 once and a little showers won’t melt the memories or the day!
Love the hands focus. Keep snappin, you never know what might happen!

I’m just happy to know you take out of focus pictures every now and then. You’re awesome! Nuff said!

Thats what makes photography so awesome!!!! There are book rules, then there is real life. I like the how the picture shows movement and endearment. I love children’s hands so soft and innocent.

  19. I love the picture! I shows the relationship between two sisters that are busy having fun.

Thank you for reminding me of this! I feel like the more I play with my ‘photography’ the worse I am getting….and my husband says I’m just too critical. I think both are true! Ha! But…it is important to remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect to love it!

  21. So glad you reminded us that sometimes what I like to call a “happy accident” turns out to be stunning. When I get my exposure just perfect, I marvel at myself (LOL for about two seconds)! Then I’ll have issues with exposures and I’m back to beating myself up. However, I have found that upon second, third, or forty first look, I sometimes prefer my “happy accidents.” Perfection has to be a curse of those of us called to work on this photography stuff. It’s great fun to pursue though. I like seeing movement in the photos at times-can’t always get it where I want it. I really like to see “pieces and parts” in children’s photography. Think that’s why I like seeing the hands there.

It’s really great to hear that even when you are a professional, and one who takes as beautiful images as you do, that you still have things turn out “wrong”. Though, I must say, if I can have something turn out as “wrong” as you do, I’d be over the moon! :)

I’d do a rain dance for you, but they always backfire on me! Good luck with the weather. I do love that picture!

I did the same thing last weekend….watched the weather reports daily until Friday, I began watching it by the hour praying for no rain!!!!! with 17 kids coming over for a princess party, I really really did not want to entertain inside….and I got my wish…..praying for you!!!!
and gorgeous photo….I agree….I love the motion and the hands being held. Quite a statement of emotion among the girls.

  25. I love the way that picture is out of focus–looks like she is having fun! Also, don’t even look at the weather until Friday. I have found that works best for me because weathermen/women can never get it right.
    It will be great!

Definitely doing the anti-rain dance for you! I was the same way with our daughter’s first birthday :) . Best of luck!! And that photo ~ gorgeous! I absolutley love the way it is focused on their hands. You could pull it off like you did it on purpose ;) I would! It’s actually pretty perfect and tells a lot…big sister holding little sister’s hand leading her through everything…pretty cool.

  27. Ada says:

I so feel for you & the weather predicament. My son always wanted an outside baseball/swim party & he’s a January birthday-so never happened. Lots of events instead- movies, laser tag, bowling, Harlem Globe Trotters, FIre Station visit…. Nothing dependent on blue sky.
I SO wish I could send you some of my creativity- seems only fair since I’ve gleaned SO much from you! I love & adore making parties none the same. I like to pick a theme around personality or trait in the kiddo rather than what plates I can pick up at Target :) If I could help you I SO WOULD! Here’s just a couple of my favorites to see what I mean- For my little guys 1st birthday “You are my Sunshine” because he so is!….all yellows & orange & Sun decor (easy). For last years 5 yr old I did “She is The Apple of our Eye”- all apples, apple shapes, apple stamped totes, apple-jacks braclets. Red, Bright pink & Green Apple colors. Fun stuff. I love the creative part….

I just know either way, it will be just perfect for B- & a very happy birthday to Mommy too!!

  28. Maggie says:

Love that part of the image too! My little guy turns one tomorrow and we’re celebrating his big day on Saturday too. But, we’re up in the cold so no chance we’ll be outside. Hope the rain stays away for you!

Praying for no rain on Saturday!!! I know how stressful that can be! Oh the joys of having a kid with a winter birthday! And, the pom poms you made? LOVE them! How do you make those? I need to know! They are so cute, I am very impressed!
