Run, Drew! Run!
I am not a runner. I grew up playing soccer. Midfield to be exact. Anyone how knows soccer knows that midfielders run the most. I always begged to play forward instead. I could run the short sprints needed to play soccer, but I’ve never had the endurance to run a few miles. Or even a mile. Maybe at my peak shape I could run a mile, but not much more than that. I don’t think I know the proper way to breathe. Or maybe I get bored, I don’t know. In junior high we a run in PE called the Coyote Run. I always dreaded the Coyote Run and came in last. I even went to a cross country meet in junior high. I think I went because we got to leave school early. I came in last for our school. Seriously.
I’m no runner, but the last few weeks I’ve actually started running. With a 2 year old. In a jogging stroller. Going up hills. It’s hard, but I’m actually really enjoying it. It’s so nice to be outside in the fresh air. Brayden gets out of the house (and he gets rewarded by going to the park after) and I get a work out. It feels so good to do something for myself. Besides taking a shower in the morning this is the only time I ask Brayden to do something I want to do. I had been wanting to go back to the gym, but the thought of getting both of us in the car and out of the house and then putting B in childcare freaked me out. This is so much easier.
I’m using the Couch to 5K app on my iphone. It’s really easy to follow and even I am able to keep up with it. I downloaded a couple of other apps (iMap My Run and Run Keeper), but apparently we don’t live in a very good GPS zone because they don’t work. I may have to break down and get the Nike+. I like tracking my progress and actually being able to see my improvement. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even run a 5K.
Oh, and that beautiful BOB Revolution jogging stroller in the picture is not mine. A wonderful friend let me borrow hers this week so I could see if I think it’s worth the investement. Um, it’s amazing. Compared to my janky Jeep jogging stroller it’s so light weight and so much easier to steer. And I think Brayden likes it better because he complains less. I’m in love! But, with a $400 price tag I’ll be saving my pennies. Or at least I need to prove to myself that I’m really committed before I invest in it. So, if anyone would like to donate a navy blue BOB (heck, I’d even make B ride in the brown and pink version!) that would be awesome. Thanks

You sound a lot like me, although our junior high mile was called the Long Beach. I always came in last, always. I’ve always wanted to be a runner though. I have never been good at it, never really liked it either but something about it always attracted me. Maybe I’ll get off my butt and try it too. A little harder for me though, throwing 3 kids in a jogging stroller. Thanks for inspiring me, Drew.

That’s awesome! I wish I had the motivation to become a runner. My SIL runs 5-7 miles a day, with my nephew in a stroller, and she’s 40! She’s in awesome shape. The best I can do is a workout video on my home!

I used the C25k app to start running. It worked SO well for me. I completed the 9 weeks last week and am now running about 3.5 miles a day in prep for my first 5k next month. Great job getting started!

Hey!! Just have to say that right now I’m training for a marathon and my running buddy uses the Run Keeper Pro, it is like $10, I think? She has had great success with it. I however am not quite lucky enough to have the Iphone yet, but I do have the Nike+ attachment for my IPod and it work FANTASTIC!!!! If you are wanting to keep track of your runs, progress, little competitions with yourself or others, I say go for it! It is a cheap investment at $29 and well worth it. People complain about the sensor battery, but I have had mine over 2 years and just now needing a replacement, plus, I didn’t realize you could turn the darn thing off after each run. Go figure. Anyway, wishing you tons of luck with whatever you chose to use. AND, good luck on the stroller. It is way to hard for me to push and run, so instead I get up at the crack of dawn. Wise, I know. Ha! ha!

Isn’t it awesome? I’ll have to download those aps, but I’m really loving it lately. It really gets your heart rate up. I also ADORE the Bob. I had to get the double, obviously but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Try Craigslist cause those babies stay in good condition! You gotta be quick though, they go FAST! The resale value also stays around which is awesome but getting $100 off or so, is super great.

I’m the same way! I really don’t like running, never have but recently started the C25K program as well. I’m on week 3 and the iPhone app really makes it easy to follow and stay motivated. I use iMapmywalk on my iphone also but found that it only really works when I’m on established roads. We have a great trail system where I live in beautiful parks but the GPS coverage is not so great there.
I’m contemplating the Nike+ set up……but have not pulled the trigger yet. Good luck with your program and hope you get the BOB……my mommy friends rave about it

You go girl! I agree, you should definately check Craig’s list- That is were we got our awesome double jogger stroller- I saw several BOB last night at a consignment sale… I’m afraid the shipping to CA would cost more than the stroller!
I’ve heard great things about the Couch to 5K program, totally with you on the gym/childcare thing. We have the Zooper Boogie jogging stroller and I really like it. We even lugged it across country to Disneyland and it was worth the effort. Good luck with your running, cheering you on from here!

Ok my junior high had a run called coyote run. Did u by chance go to canyon hills??
If you do end up buying a stroller I would get a double, unless of course you are only having one B…but how could you he’s so dang cute you for sure need more! I love LOVE LOVE LOVE did I say LOVE? my Chariot and I can even hook it to my bike when I’m not using it for running and we want to hit the park up for a picnic, its AWESOME!! I’ve heard great things about the BOB but until my Chariot dies (I hope NEVER) I’m stickin with it…2 awesome things in one! WOO WOOT!
I don’t have the motivation to run but I try to get out on the pretty days for a nice long walk with my lil one and sometimes the dogs as well which is interesting.

No, I went to El Rancho
Randy and I are doing the couch to 5K too! We’re on week 6, and we were definitely not runners before. We have the c25k app and the nike+ and it was really worth it. If you have an iphone it’s only $19 (because you only need the sensor not the attachment) Good luck!
If you do get Nike+ you do not have to buy Nike shoes, there is a little thing you can buy to put on the laces of any running shoe that will work.

Congrats on the running! :0) I hope it works out for you. I have the BOB in light blue/brown… LOVE IT. It is the best stroller I have ever had. My 7 year old fits in it and begs for rides. lOl My 2 year old loves it too. He never coplains even when we are out and about for an extended period of time.
The Couch to 5K is a great program. A few of my girlfriends and I started it a few months back. Great results. :0)
Best wishes.

I am so inspired by the rad runners that are my twitter friends who have the Nike+. Their progress is crazy and makes me want to be a runner too. WHA????
The janky Jeep!!! I sold mine on craiglist. Good riddance. I borrowed the same Bob for a walk a thon last month and I did not want to give it back. I think you need to get both.
Then I can be jealous of your progress.
Run!!!!!! Sparkleflower!!!!! Run!!!!!!

What a coincidence, I have referenced the Coyote Run TWICE this week! I still can’t believe they let us run out on the street unsupervised. Anyways, I love love love the Nike Plus. Huge fan.
That’s because the Coyote Run is forever etched in our brains because of how horrible it was. Even 18 years later we remember. OMG. That just made us sound really old.
I was just like you and never ran nor did I think I was capable. I did the Couch Potato to 5k this fall and I’m here to tell ya it works! I’m preggo now but I’m looking forward to starting it again post-baby. Good luck! And I definitely need a Bob stroller too!

Wow! That’s a great looking stroller! I put Kylan in a jogging stroller when he was merely 6 months old. Sometimes, many times, people would comment from their car how small the baby is. Recomendation is 1 year old and up but I didn’t care because I just felt like it was the first special thing we did as father and son. (I was extra extra careful) We have so many memories even though I am just running and he is just sleeping or sitting. Drew, you can borrow our Bob as long as you want until you find a special deal.
I love my BOB!!! We have the brown and pink version, and it’s the best stroller ever! Sadly, we actually bought before our first Disney trip last year, but we saw right away it was worth the investment. I ran with it yesterday around our neighborhood which has some gravel parts and is mostly paved gravel, and BOB didn’t appreciate that very much.

Ron is a runner and he LOVES the Bob. We actually have the double one. I love it for taking the girls for walks — Syd still even fits in it so she can climb in when she needs a break. It really is worth the investment, even if you only are taking walks… the kids are so much more comfortable and it’s easier on our bodies as well. And congrats on the running! Awesome!

Way to go Drew! You are providing me with motivation
My motivation is bikini season is around the corner ;D, always a good one when I don’t want to do it!
Yay for running! I was pretty invested in running right up until I got pregnant, when I told myself I’ll run throughout my pregnancy. Yeah, well my version of exercise turned out to be walking to and from my classes. So I’m finally getting back into it and it feels great, I know what you mean:) And, I would say invest in the Nike+ipod if you find you really want to keep at it, that thing is awesome!
Like to run and LOVE my BOB. I’ve got a double, but now I’ve got three kids. What am I supposed to do?!
Go for a 5K! I’m debating a half marathon in the fall. Crazy?
The BOB is TOTALLY worth the investment! We actually have the double Revolution (our only double stroller) and I love, love, love it. After pushing a BOB, I can hardly stand to push any normal stroller, single or double. I love the fact that it turns on a dime when you have the wheel unlocked for walking. I have absolutely loved being able to run with my kids–it makes them part of that part of your life, and I think it is good for teaching them exercise habits, getting them out in the fresh air, etc. Like the last commenter I now have three kids so can’t take them all for a run by myself anymore–will have to have my husband along pushing the single. We will be a sight!
LOVE my BOB!! Totally worth every penny. I am not a huge runner (bad knees) but the ease and comfort of my BOB for both myself and my little girl make it to my Top 10 Moms Things list for sure.
I hope you find one soon and way to go with the 5k.
Yes, we love the BOB. I have the single and the double. Do you guys have REI’s because they run them for 20% off fairly often!

You go girl!
The BOB is AMAZING! We bought a double BOB last summer and it was the BEST investment I’ve EVER EVER made!
Check out Joggermom.com-maybe you already have, but she has some great deals and will most always accept competitors prices. She’s in Temecula, not too far!
Seriously though, best buy EVER!
Freaking coyote run!! Hated it. We must not had PE together, cause I think I was always last
oh girl, how the Coyote run is bringing back bad memories! but one thing I will say is, I got a Bob when I was prego with Jared, and it has been the best stroller, and worth every penny, and now that I am pergo again, I am wishing for the double BOB. Double ouch price tag!!!!! good luck with the couch to 5k! there is nothing like being outside in the open air!

I read about you being a soccer player who hated running. I thought I was the only one. I get weird looks when I say that I hate running. I consider it some sort of punishment. I haven’t finished reading the entire post but I found it ironic and thought I’d comment and let you know that we shared the same mini-story. Maybe this is a sign that I should run…
