Getting My Womentum
I did it. I signed up for my first race. And as soon as I did I kind of regretted it. I’m totally stepping out of my comfort zone. What if I can’t finish? What if I come in last? What if I trip in front of all those people?
I’m running in the 5K Revlon Run/Walk for Women in LA on May 8. And I decided to run it in memory of my best friend’s mom, Sandra Martinez, who lost her very long and extremely courageous battle to breast cancer on April 1, 2008. I only got to meet Grandma Sandy a few times. Mostly at her grand kids birthday parties. But the times that I did meet her left an impression on me. And she definitely did something right when raising her daughter, Michelle, who happens to be one of the most selfless, caring, and generous people that I know. I guess that’s why she’s my BFF
My fundraising goal is $1000 and I’m already half way there (with some very generous donations from family). If each one of you who reads the site daily donates just $1 I can far exceed my goal! Also, if I reach $2000 I will receive an Apple ipod Shuffle. If I reach $3000 I will receive an Apple 8 GB ipod Nano. If I can raise that much I will gladly raffle it off here to those who donate! Besides raising money for women’s cancer research that’s a pretty good incentive, right? And all donations are tax deductible!
Every dollar helps to support research to help end these horrible diseases. It’s my hope that in the very near future no body’s mom, grandma, daughter, sister, or friend will have to go through this again.
Thanks for your support!!!
PS If you are interested in running in the May Mom*tog Nike+ challenge it will be invitation only this time (so the boys stay out!). You need to have a Nike+ and you need to be a mom. Leave a comment here if you’re interested in joining. Please leave the comment with the email address that your Nike+ account was created with.
ETA – I’ve added everyone to the Nike+ May Challenge that left a comment requesting to be added. If you did not get an invite then I do not have your correct email address!
JVS Speedlight
I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Denver. I spent exactly 33 hours there. 13 of those hours were spent in the JVS Speedlight workshop. I go to one workshop every year and this year I really wanted to challenge myself and become better with my Speedlights (aka flash). I really want to start getting more creative with my reception lighting. Noel Kelley emailed me asking my opinions on the workshop. I did some research and I liked the way they exclusively use Speedlights for their lighting. I already have two! I saw that the furthest west they were coming was Denver so I booked my ticket and took off!
The workshop is great for those of you who have studios and really want to take your portraits to the next level. This workshop would also be great for senior photographers. And if you already own speedlights the modifiers they use aren’t ridiculously expensive. They outline exactly what you need to buy and tell you where to buy it from. JVS and Anne are ridiculously good at what they do. It’s truly awesome to see what they come up with.
While it was interesting to learn all of the things you can do, will I become a flash photographer? No. I still love my natural light
But, I do definitely understand my speedlights better and I’m excited to try out the reception lighting that I learned.
I didn’t take a lot of pictures, but here are a few of my favorites.
It was SOOOOOO cold when we were shooting these outside. Even the Colorado photographers were cold! Colorado did not get the memo that it’s Spring!
PS Please don’t email me asking about my settings or what lights we used to get these pictures. My lips are sealed! I would suggest enrolling in one of JVS’ workshops and seeing it firsthand. I promise it’s worth it!
School
A couple of weeks ago we started Brayden’s new pre preschool class. This is the second semester we’ve attended, but we switched teachers and locations this time. And he has his two most bestest friends in class with him this time too! Dakota attended last time with us, but Kylan sat out last semester because his Mommy just had his baby sister Kyrsten. I’m so happy that the 3 amigos are back together! These kids met at Gymboree when they were just 6 months old!
B absolutely loves his “school”. This class is for both parents and kids and introduces kids to a preschool setting. Brayden loves making art and it’s proudly displayed all over his bedroom. We’re going to run out of room soon!
Kota and Kylan showing off their painting skills.
Brayden’s new haircut. Couldn’t deal with the curls any longer!
He takes his artwork very seriously!
Lunchtime
Brayden I are very fortunate because Chuck works close enough to where he is able to come home for lunch four days a week. Brayden loves seeing his Daddy and I love a little break
When B is really missing Daddy we will wait for him outside.
Waiting patiently…
