Be The Match
We got some sad news that Chuck’s Uncle was diagnosed with Leukemia. One day he was healthy and the next day he had cancer. It’s amazing how fast life can change. Last week we found out that he is going to need a bone marrow transplant. Luckily he has several siblings and we’re hoping that one of them will be a match. He just finished his first round of chemo and when he’s healthy enough he’ll have the transplant. I know Don is going to be okay. He’s a fighter. I just wish he didn’t have to go through this. I wish no one had to go through this.
A couple of months ago I registered to be a bone marrow donor through Be The Match. I read a story in the newspaper about a local girl who needed a bone marrow transplant and none of her family members were a match. I thought how if I were her Mom I would hope that everyone would get tested to save my child’s life. I thought how if Brayden, Chuck, my Mom or my Dad got sick they have a slimmer chance of having a match within our family because they are only children. I thought how incredible it would be to help a total stranger have a second chance at life.
It’s something so simple that we can all do and it can change someone’s life. It’s something so simple we can do to SAVE someone’s life. It takes 5 minutes to fill out all the information online and then another 5 minutes once you receive the package to swab your checks, seal the package up, and put it in the mail. In a total of 10 minutes you could be on the road to SAVING someone’s life. Isn’t that incredible? Do you have 10 minutes to spare to change the life of someone and those that love them?

As a mom to a little boy with leukemia, I thank you
More people need to be aware of the need for bone marrow.

Thanks for the info, just ordered my kit.
I am so sorry your family has to go through this. Thinking of your family and that he will find a close match quickly. I am registered. Take care!
My husband and I both signed up about 2 years ago. It’s a simple registration process that could save a life. Thanks for the post regarding Be the Match. Sorry to hear about your Uncle, I hope he finds a match quickly.
I’m on the registry. I hope that being 0- has some sort of benefit to someone that needs a match.
My 5 year old cousin died from complications of leukemia this past Spring. But he was given an extra year of life by some stranger on the be the match registry. I joined shortly after he was diagnosed and I sincerely hope I’m able to give the gift of life at some point to someone in need.
Drew, So sorry to hear about Chuck’s Uncle. You might remember me, I contacted you in June about taking pictures of my 2 year old daughter who was just diagnosed with Leukemia. She is doing good going through intense chemo for the next year. It is so greta that you are part of finding a match. It is soo important for all of us to take part in this. My prayers are with you and your family! I know they will find a match!
Sincerely, Teresa
PS-as soon as Haven’s hair is back, I would love to get you to take some pics

I have always wanted to register and never got around to it. Thanks so much for posting the link. It was so easy. Plus, I learned that you can donate your baby’s umbilical cord blood. I had no idea!!! Wishing I knew that when I had my critters. Your big heart is amazing Drew. Always amazing.

Yes. Yes I do have that time. And YES if I was a mother going through that I would also want/beg/hope/wish/pray/stand on a street corner with a sign, if it meant finding that match.
Thank you for the reminder & link…Im posting it on my FB too
