Like Mother Like Son?
I’ve had an old point and shoot sitting in my desk drawer for sometime and had been thinking about letting Brayden play around with it. After seeing this story I decided to go for it.
The camera is a little too big for his little hands and he has a hard time holding down the button long enough to get the camera to focus and the shutter to release (especially inside). And he likes to put his fingers on the lens, which drives me bonkers! He’s only dropped it once and it’s still in working condition. He has fun with it and I like watching him ask his subjects (toy snake, flowers, Hauggy) to say, “Cheese!”.
Here are two of his “masterpieces”
When can I start using him as a second shooter? Maybe when he turns 3…

I completely agree. My kids both have their own cameras (they are 7 and 4 1/2). I love seeing the world through their eyes. My oldest likes to take pictures of “things”, but we do end up with many of his open mouth or nostrils!! LOL! It’s all about perspective right?!
i have an old point and shoot that i gave to my son a while ago. i even have a folder on the computer for all the pictures he takes.
mostly, it’s of his toys, so i don’t have anything fun to share yet… but maybe some day.

My point and shoot is in not so good condition bc I have let my older two children (now 5 and 3) play with it. They both take great photos. I have been wanting to get them both the kid tough Fisher Price camera. You might want to check it out. http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2620&e=cameralanding

I let my kids play with my old Canon powershot, too
Someone may as well get some use out of it!

my dad bought my son (3) a fisher price kid tough digital camera for christmas. he LOVES it. it has a viewfinder like binoculars so he can use both eyes and an easy button for his little fingers. great bonus – i don’t worry about it getting dropped because i know it will survive. the image quality isn’t great but he enjoys himself and likes to be ‘just like mommy’. we’ve even rigged one of my old neck straps to it. it has been a fun investment for his age.
way too cute! when my daughter gets a bit older I want to get her one of the kid digital cameras or if we can find the battery of her dad’s old one we’ll give her that one, I mean if it can with stand 3 deployments it can handle a kid right

I think giving them a camera is a great idea. I’d suggest getting him a toddler-proof camera though. The canon DC10 is unbreakable and waterproof.
That is so cute! My daughter loves taking photos with the camera on my blackberry. Maybe I should give her our old point and shoot. Love the post!
The camera is an old camera that hasn’t been used in over a year. If he breaks it it’s not a big deal. Im not going to buy him a brand new point and shoot quite yet. The toddler cameras are a great idea but the quality out of this camera is much better. He only uses it supervised and I’m sure he’ll get the fisher price camera for his bday or Christmas
Priceless! I too am mentoring my daughter, she is 4. lol

What a cutie. Both my boys like to be behind the camera too! I find 100′s of photos on my phone that I didn’t take, LOL!
