Sick Day

We’re sick over here (again).  What else is new right?  We had a PJ day and in an attempt to have a little fun I brought out Brayden’s easel and paints.  He painted two pictures for his BFF’s, Owen and Emma.

My favorite pictures of Brayden are the pictures where he is simply being himself.  Not the forced pictures that I make him take.  Like, the 20 week picture.  That is definitely his personality, but when I look back at that picture I will remember being frustrated and saying, “Brayden!  Just hold the sign and you will get 5 gummy bears!” over and over again.

This picture is a memory.

Canon 5D, 50 1.2

F 2.0, 1/200, ISO 500

We were just playing and being silly and messy.  I was begging him to paint me a picture (because he never does).  I was giving him a pouty face and he would say to me, “It’s okay, Mommy.  You don’t need a picture.  I’ll make you a craft someday!” and laughing hysterically.

When I look at this picture I’ll remember his little three year old giggle.  Not forced smiles and frustration.

20 Weeks

I’m 20 weeks today.  Halfway there!  Or, hopefully more than halfway there if I’ll be having a c-section at 39 weeks.

The last month has been good.  I’ve gotten my appetite back (which is evident by the 5 1/2 pounds I gained this month).  Nausea is gone.  Getting big, but not too uncomfortable yet.  My biggest complaint is my horrible insomnia.  I have maybe slept through the night twice since I’ve been pregnant.  I’m a horrible sleeper anyways, but I think it’s just cruel and unusual punishment to have insomnia while pregnant.  Shouldn’t you be getting as much rest as you can before the baby comes?  I know my body is getting ready to be up all night with a newborn, but I think my body should be taking advantage of the time that I can sleep.  My doctor was kind enough to prescribe me a sleep aid, so we’ll see if that works.

I’ve been feeling the baby move a lot more in the past few weeks.  I started feeling “flutters” at 13 1/2 weeks, which just seems crazy early to me.  Every week she’s gotten stronger and stronger.  She loves it when her daddy puts his hands on my stomach and just goes crazy!  I’m a little nervous about how active she is and how much these kicks are going to be hurting by the time I’m 39 weeks pregnant!  Ouch!

Making of a Memory

Take a normal Monday trip to Disneyland.

Throw in a huge freak rainstorm with no umbrellas or proper rain gear and a child who apparently hates ponchos.

Make a mad dash for the monorail and get soaking wet. Make said child who is wet, cold, and miserable pose for a picture.

And you’ve got yourself an unforgettable trip to Disneyland.

*** All pictures taken with the Canon G10.  I thought about taking my DSLR and thank goodness I didn’t because it would have gotten soaked!

What are some fun memories that you have captured on camera?  Post them over on Real Mom*togs!

Thank You!

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind comments, tweets, and facebook comments! We are super excited to be welcoming a baby girl into our family. But, more than anything we are excited that she looks healthy and right on track. When I found out I was pregnant with a boy the first time I was DEVASTATED. I had panic attacks not knowing what I was going to do with a little boy. I really wanted a girl first because, honestly, I thought I only wanted one kid. If I had my girl first then I could just be done. If I had a boy I would have to have two kids and the thought of two kids scared the crap out of me. Of course, as soon as I met Brayden I fell in love and all my fears went away. Having a boy is so special. He gives me princess kisses and calls me princess mommy. I love how is such a little man and he’s excited to have hairy armpits and a hairy face just like his Daddy. I love how he opens the door for me, but will also fart and think it’s the funniest thing in the whole wide world.

I realize now why I had my boy first. If I would have had a girl first I probably would have stopped and never had a crazy, funny, handsome, lovable little man in my life. Everything happens for a reason. And now I’m so excited that our little girl will have an older brother to protect her and always watch over her. I can’t wait to see how their relationship grows!

Lots of people had questions about the Stop Motion video! It was fun to make and pretty easy! The hardest part for me was the song. I had been searching for song options for a few weeks. Then, randomly, my friend Tara Whitney posted the video for Whole Wide World by Mindy Gledhill on Facebook Thursday night. It was the same day we found out we were having a girl and as soon as I heard it I knew it was perfect. I ran into the bathroom where Chuck was giving B a bath and played it for him. Halfway through the song I burst into tears (damn, hormones). It just really hit me that we’re really having a girl. The song really made the video I think.

Other than an awesome song, the most important things you need for a Stop Motion video are a great concept or storyline and a tripod. It’s important to know exactly what you are going to do before you do it so you have everything you need and are prepared.  Once you start shooting it’s hard to stop.  You want the lighting to be as consistent as possible (although a storm on Sunday ruined that for me).  You don’t necessarily have to have one, but for the concept I was going for I did need it.  With a tripod the subjects are moving, but the camera isn’t. Except for the beginning of the video, which is video shot on the 5D Mark II, the rest is just a series of pictures (around 125 in my video) all put together. The tripod makes it so it looks like the subject or objects are moving through the frame.  For instance, the parts where the letters and onesies are going up I put a letter up, took a picture.  Put another letter up, took another picture.  I did that over and over again.  Kind of tedious!  For the parts where Chuck, Brayden, and I are all in front of the camera, I had my awesome friend Jamie come down and shoot that. I put the camera on a tripod, set the settings, and she clicked the shutter.  I could have bought a remote, but using Jamie saved me some money :)

I used imovie 09 to edit it. It was very easy to use and fun to put my old TV production and editing skills to use. The whole thing took about two half days to shoot and edit. It was a really fun project and I’m excited to show it to our baby girl when she’s older!

And here’s a tutorial that helped me when I first started researching stop motion.
