Guest Blog – Angry Julie
Today’s guest post comes from Angry Julie. Don’t be scared by her name. She’s not really that angry. I was a little scared of her before I met her, but she was much happier than I thought she would be
Julie is a real life CSI photographer (She really is! She even told me I could go for a ride along, although I don’t think I could hang). She blogs a little bit of everything and always has great photographs to accompany her posts (especially of her cute 6 year old son!). I’m photographing them in the Fall and can’t wait!
Big thanks to Julie for guest blogging for us today!
As a mom and a photographer, I’m always looking for the perfect “shot”. My son is getting tired of seeing me pull the big DSLR out at every occasion. Honestly, I get tired of taking over 300 pictures at an afternoon party and then having to edit them when I get home. Who has time for all of that? I know, I don’t.
With summertime here, we are racing from one party to another, the pool, the beach, and everything else. Who wants to cart around a heavy camera? I’ve been relying on my iPhone as a point-and-shoot camera for quite some time now. I think my iPhone4 takes amazing pictures, and I always have it with me. I’ve learned how to manipulate my photos by taking pictures at different angles, and using apps to edit my photos.
I took this photo this past weekend. My son was enjoying an ice cream cone. He is used to me snapping photos. I edited it with Camera+ to pop the color a bit. I think the photo turned out great. Plus, I don’t have to go home, upload my photo card, and pull-up various programs to edit the photo. It is all done.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my DSLR a Nikon D700 but I currently have at least 10 events where I need to organize and edit the photographs. Plus, I work full-time, and my son is out of school for the summer.
People are always asking, “how long did it take to be a good photographer, what type of camera do I need to be good, what camera does that professional use”? Well my opinion is that the best camera is the one that you have. I think you can be a great photographer with practice. I might not be the best photographer with my DSLR but I think I do pretty well with my iPhone. We all can’t be excellent at everything, right? I take at least 25-50 photographs every day with my iPhone. I am even doing a photography project on my blog via my iPhone. Be sure to check out my Project 365, where I take a different photo every day. I’ve been doing this since January 1, 2011 and I’m still going. I am halfway done.
With practice, you can also learn to compose your photographs better. I took this photo of a Ferris Wheel a few weeks ago. I walked around the entire Ferris Wheel taking photos at different angles. I then edited the colors and exposure in different applications. I settled with Camera+ once again, and also posted this photograph on Instagram. Instagram is a photo sharing site that I use on my iPhone. You can view other people’s photos, “like” their photos, and even comment. I have seen some amazing photographs on Instagram that were taken on an iPhone.
