1 Week Old!
I can not believe that Kennedy is already a week old! We are so in love with her. Even at 2 am, and 3 am, and 4 am… She really is a good baby.
The delivery was good and uneventful. It is an odd thing going in for a scheduled c section. I was pretty much a wreck the entire weekend before. Just knowing when it’s coming is weird. And then walking into the operating room and being so aware of everything. I was so out of it with Brayden and it all seemed so rushed. This time it was so relaxed. Well, everyone else was relaxed.
I was pretty brave when they took me back. I thought I would lose it without Chuck by my side. When it was time to begin, the doctor walked Chuck in and he sat down beside me and said, “I can’t wait to meet our baby girl”. That’s when I lost it and did the ugly cry. The anesthesiologist (who was A-MA-ZING), played music and asked if I wanted to listen to anything in particular. I asked her if she had any Britney. She thought I was joking (I wasn’t) so I dropped it and told her to play whatever she wanted. There was a totally random song on and I kept thinking to myself, “Please don’t let my baby be born to this song. Please don’t let my baby be born to this song.”. And right when I could tell they were getting close, Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” came on. It was perfect.
I was released from the hospital after 2 days because I couldn’t stand being in there a second longer and it has been great to be home. Brayden has adjusted SO well. He loves being a big brother. Every morning when he sees her he says, “She’s so little! Can I pet her?”. He keeps asking if she can crawl yet or walk yet. He teaches her animal noises and loves to hold her. It’s really awesome.
And she even let’s me photograph her. Brayden never let me photograph him as a newborn. As soon as I would get close to him all he wanted to do was eat.
I’m just enjoying every single second. I never thought I would say that about a newborn. But, after seeing how fast my B has grown up I know that this time is so short with her. And we are so lucky to have two amazingly perfect, healthy children. So, so, lucky. How could I not be enjoying it?

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl! I started following your blog just recently and love it. I recently gave birth to my third child via c-section (she’s 7 weeks old today), so I can totally relate to your birth story. I, too, feel blessed to have three healthy and happy children. Congrats again, and enjoy this special time with your kids!
She’s a doll! isn’t it like she’s always been in the family!? The second one FLYS by! Its so sad, but so exciting to see who she will become!
I had an emergency c-section the first time around, followed by a scheduled one for my second. I know exactly what you mean about it being an odd feeling. Surreal. I remember feeling like I was in a movie with the doctors and nurses looking down at you. So bizarre.

She is so sweet and cute! My little guy is 3 weeks old (tomorrow) and I’m having a tough time photographing him. He seems to wake up every time I get close to him. But I have gotten some awesome shots with his eyes open.

Oh my, my eyes were welling when I started reading your post, then I chuckled when I got to the “Britney” part. What particular song of Britney’s would you have wanted to be playing? Although I agree that Mraz’s “I’m yours” was quite perfect too. I love reading stories about a big sister/brother very eager to take good care of their little sibling. You are really blessed.

Drew, I absolutely love your story about the music! Jason Mraz “I’m yours” is the BEST lullaby. It was a song I had on my computer that I would listen to while editing pics when I was pregnant. My hubby hated it! After a while my little one started kicking when it would come on. I thought it was funny, he didn’t. When she was about a week old we were having a really tough night and I decided to put on some calming music. This song came on and she instantly stopped fussing and went to sleep. We got a copy for the car, downloaded it on my phone etc. Within a week my hubby had memorized all the words so he could sing it to her. She’s 3 now, she calls it her “night night” song and loves hearing it. She still goes to sleep within one listen on rough nights. To be perfectly honest, we get a little tired of it sometimes, but we also can’t wait for her and her daddy to dance to it at her wedding someday
