It Takes A Village
In the past week I have:
Shot one family session
One engagement session
One wedding
And one newborn
Had one cranky baby get her two month vaccinations
One crazy boy to deal with because, well, he’s 3. And crazy. And a boy.
And one case of mastitis. Sorry. No pictures of the mastitis.
How did I get through this crazy week? This guy.
He’s pretty much super dad. And I couldn’t do anything if it wasn’t for him. He takes care of me when I’m sick. He feeds, plays, and entertains the kids while I work. And still has time to pick up my favorite dinner and have it ready for me when I got home from my 14 hour day on Friday AND even gave me a foot rub too. His support is the only reason I can be a successful mom and business owner.
And I also have my parents and in-laws to thank as well. My parents took the kids all day while I shot my wedding. I was so much more nervous going back to work after Kennedy than I was with Brayden. But everyone survived and I think there were minimal tears involved.
It takes a village to raise kids, but it takes a supportive family to allow a mom to live her dreams. I have the best of both worlds and I’m so thankful to all the people who help me along the way!

Drew, thank you for sharing this! I just emailed it to my family and closest friends because it’s exactly how I feel about them. Yesterday, I met with my boss and we decided that I am going to work until Thanksgiving. And then it’s me and my photography. I’ve been saying for years that “one day I’ll do it full time…” and now it’s time. Thank you for always being such an inspiration to all of us Momtogs. You are truly so talented and I appreciate all of the things you share with us. XOXO Shandon
no wonder you got mastitis! I bet it was hard to find time to pump at a 14 hour wedding day! Be kind to yourself

And I thought I was having a crazy week! My three-year-old is a bit wild and crazy right now too – only she’s a girl – and a drama queen. Advice on taming that?
Welcome back! And Amen on the family thing
) Mine rocks!
Love this post!
THIS IS SOOOOO TRUE… I really love momtog, it helps me so much. Being a mommy and still holding on to your dreams is so hard but so worth it. In the beginning It was really hard for me to let go and let others help me. And just know, I have had Mastitis 2 with my oldest and about 5 times with the second… THE.WORST.!!! I have come to the conclusion that it is my bodies way of MAKING me SLOW-MY-BUTT-DOWN!! Im still just trying to figure out why a breast infection would make your whole body ache like that….beautiful work … I’ve always loved you… I guess I am just now deciding to tell you
Great post!
Wow … and you’re super mom! That is A LOT, Drew and you got through it. I think you can do just about anything.
