Does An Elf Live On Your Shelf?

Those people that created Elf On the Shelf are really smart.  I just want to hug them.  Creating an elf that lives in your house for the month of December to spy on watch your child for Santa?  If that isn’t brilliant I don’t know what is.

Our elf, Buddy, flew in from the North Pole on the first day of December.  He literally flew in on red and green balloons.  He was waiting for Brayden when he got home from preschool with the book, a note, and a gingerbread house kit that Brayden had wanted.  We had Buddy last year, but B was too young to really get it.  This year he thinks Buddy is HILARIOUS!  He really is a michevious little elf.

The next morning Buddy was hanging out next to B’s gingerbread house and that crazy little elf thought the house needed a snowman.

Yesterday B spent the night at his grandparents house and Buddy missed him so much that he wrote a little message to Brayden.

I just hope that I don’t forget to move Buddy Buddy doesn’t forget to fly to his next spot every day.  Because that would be a big disappointment, wouldn’t it?

My goal is to make a book of all Buddy’s adventures for Brayden to open on Christmas morning.  A little story that we can read all year long.  I thought that would be a fun gift for Brayden to open on Christmas morning from Buddy.

Do you have an elf living on your shelf?  Would love to see your pictures in Real Mom*togs!

GREAT idea to take pics AND make a book! This will be our 3rd year to have our “Buddy”! What can I say? I love the movie Elf, and so does my 5 year old. He got to name him since our other son was either not born yet or a newborn. (that book would have been handy in reminding me) Happy Birthday to my 3 year old baby!!!!! They are both enjoying Buddy this year!

Ours is named Sparky. He flew in today, because we were gone last week. The boys love to look for him. It is such a great way to remind them to be good.

I recently moved to Denmark and this is my first Christmas here so I am trying to learn some of their Christmas traditions. They have an elf tradition that is huge here–bigger than Santa Claus it seems. He is called “nisse man”(or elf/pixie man in English). He will play tricks(for the kids to find) around the house throughout December and then on the 24th, they will leave porridge out for him to make him happy.

” the Christmas ‘nisse’ a small Danish mythical creature that you definitely want to stay best friends with, since he is able to control your fortune. Hence the tradition of putting porridge out for the nisse on Christmas Eve. The nisse was usually a small, old man with a white beard, dressed in a grey sweater, grey trousers, a red pixie cap, red stockings and wooden shoes. He was believed to live hundreds of years. As Christmas today is a family time, also the nisse has a family now.”

So I never had and still don’t have an elf in the house but the Danes most definitely do!

Santa sent our elf home from our “parent’s meeting” with Santa this year and my kids LOVE him. I wish I would have picked one up years ago because it adds to the magic of the days leading up to Santa’s visit. I did forget to move him one night last week but my daughter concluded that “Elfie” must have really liked being by the window because he got to keep an eye on the other kids in the neighborhood too. My three year old was terrified of him when he first arrived but now she goes up and talks to him all the time….which I have to get on video because it is hilarious! Merry Christmas!!

Our kids came home from Awana last week and found that Santa had left a note to let the kids know we would have an elf arriving on December 1st. The kids decided on a name… Mistletoe.

The silly little elf went on a little rendezvous with Barbie on his first night and has been up to crazy antics all week.

I’ve just been snapping quick pics with instagram –
