Camera / Diaper Bag

For Mom*togs the one essential you need in your diaper bag (besides the real essentials like diapers and wipes) is your camera.  When I’m out and about I tend to carry my camera on me so I always have it close by.  I wear it across my body so it doesn’t flail everywhere.  But, if I need to put it away I feel pretty secure leaving it in my everyday diaper bag, the Petunia Pickle Bottom.  I feel it’s padded enough with the changing cover in the front and usually I have a lot of clothes and soft stuff to protect the camera on the bottom of the bag.  Bottles and sippy cups go in the outside pockets so I don’t worry about anything spilling on it.  I very rarely take more than one lens just so I specifically don’t have to worry about it. I love this diaper bag because of the built in diaper pad in front.  It’s removable so you can easily wash it.  I also love how you can carry it as a back pack or a bag.  It’s the same bag I had with Brayden and I just love it.

If I have to take more than one lens or I know I won’t be caring my camera on me I will take my Epiphanie Belle Bag.  I received this bag at a photography event a couple of years ago and was excited to try it out.  This bag can fit one camera and one larger lens (I have my 24-70 on my camera body here) and a smaller lens (the 85 1.8 is pictured here).  You can also fit some diapers, wipes, a wallet, and there are two front pockets where your phone or keys can go.  There are no outside pockets for sippy cups / bottles.  This is much more of a purse and I still feel the need to carry a diaper bag when I use this bag.  To be honest, I’d probably use this bag much more if it wasn’t hot pink.   I like it.  It just doesn’t match with a lot.

For longer trips I got the Kelly Moore Libby bag.  On our recent road trip I wanted to minimize the amount of bags we had.  I didn’t want to have to carry a diaper bag and a camera bag.  This was the biggest camera purse I could find.  I can fit my laptop, camera body with prime lens, an additional lens, diapers, wipes, sippy cup / bottle, coloring books, changing pad and ipad.

When it’s that full it is heavy.  But, it’s the perfect carry on for planes.  I also felt that my gear was secure and protected.

With both the Epiphanie and the Kelly Moore you can adjust the inner velcro panels so you can fit what you want.

What’s your favorite diaper / camera bag?

  1. I have a JoTotes camera bag/purse that I love for traveling and taking to events, baby showers, parties, etc. It’s similar to the bags you spoke about, but a little cheaper. Also have velcro panels you can adjust.

Ha…and I thought I was the only one who would think that using the Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag was okay with my heavy Camera and extra lenses. I don’t have to carry as much baby “gear” now, just 1 size of diapers, some wipes, and 1 sippy cup. I love that the extra padding is already built in and that there are extra pockets for keys, wallet, etc.

Thanks for sharing! It’s really hard to find honest independent reviews of these bags.

  4. Loved this post…thanks for sharing! I currently have a Bella Tunno diaper bag, but don’t feel that it is roomy enough. Also, I am bad about not tAking my camera these days, but this inspires me to try harder!

I wish there was a nice diaper/camera bag for men. I think the Thinktank retrospective series may be the ticket. Thanks for the post though, now jealous of womens bags… sigh :D
